Play For Us!
Strummer Room Records Presents… promotes and hosts original live music events at The Apothecary Tap, a family-owned craft beer taproom in Banbury, Oxfordshire. Our gigs generally feature 3 bands/musicians who write and perform their own material. Most of our shows take place on a Friday evening from 7:00pm-10:30pm. The venue holds up to 80 people and most events are well attended.
All gigs at The Apothecary Tap are FREE ENTRY.
Although we don’t have a large budget, we aim to pay our bands/musicians some expenses, the amount is dependent on turnout and bar sales on the night (typically £40-£50 per band).
We mainly host bands who are based within around 30-miles of north Oxfordshire, but we are also looking to host bands from across the UK and overseas during 2025.
If you or your band is touring throughout 2025, please contact us to see if you could add The Apothecary Tap to your itinerary.

Access, offloading and parking:
The venue is situated in a partially pedestrianised one-way lane. Artists can drive their vehicle to the venue for offloading and will then need to park in one of the town centre car parks. Currently, parking charges are around £1.30 per hour, but FREE after 6pm. Alternatively, artists may wish to park up in either the Market Place or Bolton Road car parks and bring their equipment to the venue (2–3 minute walk). We do have a trolley that you can use to transport your equipment.
Equipment & Set-up:
We provide full PA system. The input system is XLR, however we can tolerate jack leads. We advise that you bring your own non-standard cables, connectors, adapters, and DI boxes if you use them.
We can provide a basic drum kit that includes Kick Drum, Floor Tom and two mounted toms. All drummers to bring their own stands, pedals, cymbals, throne (alternatively you could contact the other drummers to arrange kit share).
We can also provide a Fender Rumble Bass Amplifier (with DI) and a Blackstar Guitar Amplifier (which we can mic-up). You can also discuss with other bands to arrange backline share.
Please let us know if you wish to use our drum kit or amplifiers a few days prior to the gig.
Should one of the bands be providing the full drum kit, we ask that you arrive at 5:45pm to set this up. If all bands are using our house kit, we ask that all band members arrive by 6:15pm at the latest.
Soundchecks:
We aim to soundcheck all bands/artists between 6:15pm & 6:50pm. All soundchecks to be completed by 7pm at the latest.
Stage Times:
First band – 7:30pm (35-40 minutes).
Second band - 8:30pm (35-40 minutes).
Third band -9:30pm (45-60 minutes).

Photography, Videography & Sound Recording
We have a photographer at many of our events, they provide their photography services for free, and we regularly publish these on our social media sites. The photographer will also provide each band with a selection of water-marked photographs taken on the night. These are provided free of charge with the proviso that they are credited if you use them.
Additionally, we have audience members that use phone cameras to film parts of the performances. Some of these are provided to us and on occasion we will edit the clips into a longer format. These are uploaded to our YouTube site. https://www.youtube.com/@strummerroomrecordspresents
We are also happy to provide these videos free of charge in exchange for a credit.
Most performances are also recorded with a hand-held MP3 recorder. Assuming that the recording is useable, the recorded performance is then uploaded to our Mixcloud site. https://www.mixcloud.com/strummer_room/ We are also happy to provide these recordings to you on request.
If, for any reason, you would prefer not to be photographed, filmed or recorded, please let us know prior to the event.
So if all of the above suits you and your band, please get in touch.
